Today’s quick tip question is:

My featured images aren’t being picked up when I post link to my blog post on Facebook, and it’s pulling in a bunch of gibberish that makes no sense. How do I fix this to have nice thumbnails and descriptions?

When Facebook doesn’t have the right information for your post, your Facebook preview thumbnail will end up looking like this:

Facebook Bad OG

Instead of this:

Facebook Good OG

This problem is caused by one of two things: a slow server or bad code. We’ll discuss both in this video on fixing Facebook open graph data:

Links

  • Facebook Debugger (for seeing your page through Facebook’s eyes and clearing the Facebook cache on your link)
  • Yoast WordPress SEO (for controlling what information is sent to Facebook)
